Thank you for being here! Before becoming a coach, I was a struggling parent, most likely struggling with many of the same issues you are. And to be honest, some days I still do! Before having kids, I would have told you that children need to be molded like raw pieces of clay. I would have told you that punishments and rewards were the keys to “obedient” kids and that if parents were struggling with their child’s behavior, then it was on the parent to get their kids “under control”. But as my baby turned into a toddler, I began to see that wasn't the case at all, and my attempts to control my child through punishments felt awful. I felt my influence and connection to my son was lost in the need to control him and assert my power. Deep down I craved something different, but like you, I didn't know where to start, or what that even meant...yet.

I realized that all my preconceived notions about how to parent came from how I was raised, and how I saw others raising their kids. I started to notice that the way I was being told to parent (Time outs; punishments) was missing critical skill building and I started to question everything I thought I knew about parenting. I remembered how I felt as a child (lonely, misunderstood, and unseen) and knew I had to make some changes, I refused to accept that my child would grow up feeling the same. Through my extensive research, I found the Jai Institute for Parenting and completed the transformational parenting course, and it completely transformed me, my relationship with my son and my confidence as a parent soared; so, I got certified as a coach in that same program and I've never looked back.
